Click to download the tarball for simx 1.0.0. The current version is 1.0.0. The model PSF is based on the simulated performance on-axis at 6.0 keV; no variation with energy or off-axis position is included. Energy resolution is based on the current response matrix. Simx 1.0.0 is not particularly fast; we are working on this.
The previous version of simx can be downloaded from here – simx-0.5.1.
Simx is distributed as source code, and requires C compiler to install. It has been tested on Linux, OS X, and Solaris (briefly). After downloading the simx tarball, execute the following commands to compile and install the code:
If the code compiled correctly, you should now have a bin/directory with a copy of simx. We have tested this on Macs running 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and a Linux machine running Scientific Linux 4, kernel 2.6.9-67.0.1.

Simx uses the ever-popular IRAF interface that should be familiar to FTOOLS and CIAO users. It expects to find its parameter file in a directory pointed to by the PFILES system variable. If you are an FTOOLS user, you probably have a directory 'pfiles' in your home directory, e.g. /home/user/pfiles. Running simx-setup will set up the PFILES environment properly so that this is done automatically. Read more »
